Padwick 874 lists two earlier editions of 1797 and 1800, but not this edition. The ‘Catalogue of an Exhibition on Cricket’ curated by Diana Rait Kerr in 1950 describes the play as ‘an example of the penetration of the game into the lives of every class of society’, with references to cricket including on p.15 ‘I used to notch for you’ and p.30
